Hello any and all readers that stumbled unto this new website/blog of mine.
I have not really posted anything since 2022 to my original blog https://khdev.ch and the reasons are many. The main one would probably be procrastination if I am honest.
While not an excuse I have also been very busy. I have started a bachelor degree in computer science (Artificial intelligence and Machine learning) at Hochschule Luzern (HSLU) while continuing to learn many new skills and technologies in my own homelab.
Another reason of why I dont like to post things is because I am not happy of the website/blog itself, currently im using GhostCMS which is nice but there are some limitations that I dont know how to fix just yet. For example I want to implement a card for STL that lets you view and download the STL file (Imagine printables/makerworld 3d viewer). I also tend to dislike the look and feel very fast.
This results me in starting to rewrite the theme or even try my hand at programming a new blog in whatever cms or framework I get interested in at the time. With no concrete progress it then stalls out and my motivation drops to zero until a few weeks or months later it starts from the beginning.
Homelab
Homelab wise there havent been many big changes yet. I am still in the process of restructuring and implementing new things which is something I really want to convey in this blog.
Hardware wise I still have a single proxmox host with the ebay epyc/supermicro combo Link to a similar offer and I am still running a huge TrueNas Scale server that is only acting as storage for now (I do plan to move the downloaders and *arr software to it, maybe even plex itself, not sure yet).
I am considering replacing the proxmox host with 3x MinisForum MS-01 and splurge on 2x48GB DDR and 2x PM983 3.84TB each and run a 3 Node Proxmox Ceph cluster.
The reason why this would be interesting is because I want to move most if not all of my current dockerized setups to a more devops oriented kuberenetes setup while still maintaining some vms in proxmox.
One big change that I have already started implementing is using terraform and ansible for setting up and managing new things in my homelab.
With Zabbix 7 RC.01 I feel like I can and should implement monitoring as well, not entirely sure how much time I will spend with grafana for the non kubernetes homelab.
Networking wise I am still using Ubiquiti hardware, I do have various VLANs for my homelab but there are few to no restrictions, something that I am reworking as well.
Programming
During my bachelor studies we had python for datascience and now Java for OOP which reignited my passion for more programming related things. I do want to transition to C# after I finish this semesters Java OOP class.
Project wise I want to create a discord bot for myself, it should implement and thus replace the features of 2 discord bots that I am currently using. I started a few tests with python, java and javascript but I cant decide yet which one I like the most.
3D Printing
I sold my voron 2.4 and got a X1C instead. I really like the X1C and will most likely buy the new flagship model of Bambulabs even if it only increases the printsize. I also started learning 3d design to create my own STL for things, the software I am using is Fusion 360 student version.
Hot Peppers
Growing hot peppers is still a hobby of mine, this year I reduced the amount of plants in my balcony garden to just 28 varieties of hot peppers. I want them to have more space in my planter which hopefully increases the yield.
I did start growing cucumbers, tomatoes, a wasabi plant (no expectations lol) and a variety of herbs.
KHDEV
KHDev so far has just been a name for my "organisation", starting this year I want to shape it into something more professional and maybe even offer some services under freelancing.
I also want to change the way I organize my various KHDev things.
kh.dev will be the main site which will consist of this blog and portfolio. I will most likely also host my own git instance under git.kh.dev even though I currently enjoy github pro as a student.
khdev.ch will most likely turn into a personal page / business card for just switzerland related things, I will make it multi language and link back to kh.dev
khlabs.ch will most likely turn into an educational site for tinker kits that I want to maybe sell. Think electronics + microcontrollers (ESP32/RPI/Arduino) + 3D printed parts. This will mainly target the swiss market but the guide/BOM part of it should make self sourcing it possible worldwide.
kevinhaeusler.ch has been dead for quite some time. I might just make it a short business card like page with my cv and backlinks to my projects.
mka-chili.ch was supposed to document my hot pepper journey and maybe even feature an online store to sell my own hot pepper salt. Currently its inactive because I dont know what to do with it. Making it a business could offset some of my expenses but it just doesnt feel right to me.
Conclusion
Whoever you are, thank you for reading my rambling. I will try and post more content soon.
I might rewrite parts of this later, currently it is just my non edited opinions. I do not want to just chuck this text into chatgpt but I also want to improve my writing somehow...
